Killing Animal for Sport Free Essays
Hunting, like many other things in our society has been going on for many years. People have always had something to say about hunting and how cruel it is etc. But now people are actually trying to put a total stop to hunting for fun. We will write a custom essay sample on Killing Animal for Sport or any similar topic only for you Order Now In this essay I will be putting forward the arguments for and against hunting. I hae done research on ther internet and recently watched a program about hunting in Exmoor. There are many reasons for hunting, whilst researching I have found many plausable reasons for hunting and also many unplausable reasons, in this section of my essay, I will be putting the ââ¬Å"forâ⬠argument across to you. In Exmoor there are over 6000 red deer on the hills, farmers feel that it is their responsibility to keep deer numbers down and to stop them from eating all the crops on their land. In Exmoor around 1000 red deer are killed each year by farmers and hunters.Farmers have been known to kill the deer ââ¬Å"inhumanelyâ⬠when they trespass on their land, many hunters believe that it is better to hunt the deer than to let a farmer take a random shot at it, they say that hunting is a lot more human for the animal and they donââ¬â¢t feel the pain, they die instantly. Many businesses in th e hunting towns rely hugely on the hunts. Many of the businesses would be out of business if hunting was to be banned in the UK.Some of the businesses affected would be: à · Saddlery à · Hotels à · Pubs Many of the proprietors of these businesses believe in hunting and believe that it has to be done to stop the deer eating all the crops and ruining the countryside by eating everything! Hunters, as you know use dogs to chase the deer, although the dogs never actually come into contact with the deer, and the deer are never ever attacked by the dogs, the dogs are used purely to track the scent.Hunters feel that if they donââ¬â¢t hunt the deer, then there will be no deer left because the farmers will take random shots at the animals, and there will be a lot of injured deer roaming around and also if there was no hunting the herds would be too big, so hunting keeps the deer in healthy condition and stops there from being too many, in turn keeping the herds in very healthy condition. If there was no hunting, there would be no food left for the red deer to eat and there would be a lot of unhealthy deer.Hunters say that aslong as the deer numbers are kept decent, they donââ¬â¢t care how they die, as long as they do. Some people believe that only rich and snobby people hunt, but that is not the case atall. Some people have grown up around hunting and have been on hunts since a very very young age. Many people believe that hunting has been a way of life for centuries, so why should they stop?! People who hunt also say that hunting is a thrilling experience and say that they get a great ââ¬Å"buzzâ⬠from it. Hunters believe that they are helping the environment by hunting the deer. They say that there is a way to kill deer by hunting, and that they donââ¬â¢t want just any old amateur taking a ââ¬Å"popâ⬠at the deers and leaving dead and injured deer lying all over the hills. The hunters say that the way that they hunt the deer is quick and painless for the deer. Also through my research I have been looking at the argument against hunting. Many of the ordinary people looking in on the hunting communities, are totally against the idea of killing an animal for fun, they say: ââ¬Å"Hunters make a game out of killing deer, they chase it around for hours ith their dogs and then once it is too exhausted to run anymore they kill itâ⬠. Many people ask the question, à ¢â¬Å"Why chase the deer for hours and get it so exhausted? â⬠People think that yes, the deer numbers should be kept down, but not by chasing them for hours on end and then shooting it. There is also then the argument of the deers suffering so much during the hunt, for example. If the deer is shot in the wrong place, like the head then it can run away and get away from the hunt with a huge injury. In my research I saw a program where a deer was shot in the jaw rather than the head and his jaw was literally hanging from his face, where is the ââ¬Å"humanityâ⬠in that?! A lot of protestors against hunting wonder why they make hunting deer fun? Why make it into a sport? If your killing an animal then there is no point in making a sport out of it, sport should be fun and exciting, not killing live animals for fun. Protestors canââ¬â¢t understand how the hunters can get a kick out of killing an animal!Another point that the program I watched made was, why have so many hunters to hunt one animal, why not just one and a couple of dogs, not the hundreds and hundreds that are following a deer when itââ¬â¢s being hunted! The protestors understand that deer numbers have to be kept down, but there are so many things that could make hunting a much cleaner and less cruel sport. Hunters also try to make out that hunting is one of the cleanest sports around and that the deer never goes through more than one second of pain, when it is shot in the head. But through my research I have found out that this is not the case atall! Many of the hunts purposely go after the strongest and nicest stag of the herd, but if your ust trying to keep the numbers down, why go after a beautiful example of a deer? Why not a ââ¬Å"runtâ⬠so to say. Also they make out that the hunt last a matter of minutes, but this also is not the case, hunts can go on for hours at a time with the deer being chased for 2+ hours, which morally is wrong. Hunters also make out that the hounds donââ¬â¢t go anywhere near the deer and never attack them atall. This also in not the case, whilst researching and watching the program I did, there was a deer in a river and all of the hounds jumped into the river and began attacking the animal in the river. There was also a man trying to grab the deer and shoot it fro ââ¬Å"point blankâ⬠range. Basically the deer suffers hugely in an inhuman attempt of fun! The deer is chased for hours and gets killed once it is too exhausted to go on any longer! This as you can see is not atall a fair way of keeping the deer off of farmers land, and surely a better way can be found to kill them!? I have seen both sides and I think that hunting should be stopped or atleast a more human way for the deer to be killed should be found and put into place, killing the deer in the way that the hunters do is just not fair, but until both sides start ââ¬Å"making tracksâ⬠as such then nothing is going to b e sorted and the deer in the hills are just going to continue to be savagely murdered.
